Four great directors each adapt one of Boccaccio’s stories. Fellini depicts Doctor Antonio, a moralist who is horrified when a poster of Anita Ekberg is pasted up outside his apartment. Visconti’s episode tells of a young count who is mixed up in a scandal and fears his wife will divorce him. De Sica’s story has Sophia Loren begin raffled at a fairground with the money going towards her dowry. Monicelli tells of a couple who have to hide their union from a couple who have to hide their union from their employer in order to keep jobs.
